The game picks one. They are alternatives, in the order it prefers them.

Only while Old Shore Sappers is unstarted

Halt vemani! Our reconnaissance squad just gave us word of Sapper camps at the Old Shore.

The conversation forks on what the game checks, in this order:

Otherwise

And just out of curiosity, what's a [player_race] doing all the way out in {Garkai}?

  • I'm looking for active bounties, as it so happens.

Perhaps having an experienced lawman would not be such a bad idea.

Very well, consider it a commission. Bear in mind, though; this is a sacred place I am sending you to.

Do not shed blood on the Old Shore unless you are forced to. I am available to answer any questions you may have.

    The conversation ends

  • The same thing a Karu would be doing, minding my own business.

Hey! No need to get irritable now; as I said, it's just idle curiosity. Now was there anything I can do for you before I take my leave?

    The conversation ends

  • Just passing through.

Hmm. Very well; as I said - idle curiosity. Now was there anything I can do for you before I take my leave, {vemani}?

    The conversation ends

  • Wouldn't you like to know.

Don't be smart with me, boy / lass. I am only watching out for my town. You may leave now, but I'll have my eyes on you.

Garkai is wary of outsiders, and if you provoke or cause any trouble, we make our own law out here, understood?

    • (Old) Who are you calling <player_gender = male ? "boy" : "lass">?

Only when someone the data does not name is racegroup_old

If you act like a child, I will treat you like one. If you want to be treated as my equal, you will respect me in my town. Are we clear?

      The conversation ends

    • Understood.

Perfect. Now was there anything else you wanted?

      The conversation ends

    • *Keep your mouth shut and scowl at him.*

That's what I thought. Go walk it off and come back when you've calmed down.

      The conversation ends

Only when the player is racegroup_elf-myst

I'm advising all citizens and {Viasha} to stay clear of the location.

The conversation ends

Only while Old Shore Sappers is succeeded

Thank you again, outsider. The Moonsap Mushrooms on my ancestor's shore have returned to their usual tranquility.

Only when all of these hold:

  • Only while the quest is at the authored phase

  • Only while the quest is at the authored phase

What's your status?

Only while Old Shore Sappers is unstarted

Remember, stay away from the Old Shore. As far as we know, illegal sap-harvesters are still active there.

What the player can raise (6)

The game offers every topic whose requirement is met, in the order it prefers them.

  • I'll get those Sappers off your shore.

How do I know I am not just sending a stranger on a suicide mission or a filthy javak back to its burrow to bring a few morsels of information to its fellow rodents?

    • I can take a gang of common thieves.

Requires a Low check of Strength

Your strength does seem adequate to prevail against significant opposition. Very well. Report to me if you have further questions, or once you have dealt with the Sappers.

      The conversation ends

    • I've talked scarier people out of worse decisions.

That is precisely the attitude I need for this situation. I would rather avoid bloodshed on my ancestors' shore. A diplomatic solution is the preferred approach.

Only if no other choice presents itself should you resort to bloodshed.

      The conversation ends

    • I never fail to carry out the orders I receive.

*The wary guard seems subtly comforted by this common ground.* Very well. Your orders are as follows: Remove the Sappers as cleanly and discretely as possible.

Your ultimate goal is to protect the shore and the temple's Moonsap grove. Report back to me with any questions or updates.

      The conversation ends

    • I have experience deaing with problems that walk on two legs.

Perhaps having an experienced manhunter could be a benefit to us. Very well, consider it a commission.

Bear in mind, though; the Old Shore is a sacred place. Do not spill blood unless you are left with no other option.

Continues where this conversation already went

    • [Karuntak Teeth] *Scatter Karuntak teeth on the counter.* Tore them out with my bare hands.

*The wary guard is amused.* If you're skilled enough to hunt Karuntak, I have no doubt you can handle these sap addicts.

But use some finesse before you resort to violence. I don't want their filthy innards staining our shore.

Though, in the end, I truly just want the Sappers gone.

      The conversation ends

    • [Rain] They'll never see me under cover of rain.

The weather certainly does permit the opportunity for something covert. Very well, but, try and use tact before you resort to anything violent.

I don't want to clean these men up and bury them. I only want them held accountable - or at the very least gone.

Continues where this conversation already went

    • You will just have to trust my word.

The conversation forks on how the speaker feels about the player:

      If Neutral

I know nothing about you, but in my desperation, I will wager on your intentions.

I am prepared to reward anyone who removes the Sappers without violating the sanctity of our shores.

Only if no other choice presents itself should you resort to bloodshed.

      The conversation ends

      If Accepted

(Positive Reputation) Because I've heard of your good deeds in my city, I will allow it.

I am prepared to reward anyone who removes the Sappers without violating the sanctity of our shores.

Continues where this conversation already went

      If Disliked

(Low Reputation) A vemani's word counts little, so I cannot officially sanction your involvement. If you decide to get involved regardless, I hope for you that you do not make the situation worse.

      The conversation ends

Only while the quest holds the authored value

  • The Sappers won't be a problem for you anymore.

The conversation forks on the graph-variable check:

    If True

The conversation forks on what the game checks, in this order:

Only when the game's own check passes. The compendium cannot name what it reads (MultiBranchNode).

That's what my scouts tell me. Congratulations, newcomer, you've returned our sacred shore to us without disturbing a single blade of grass.

I have included a hearty bonus for the care you've taken. You've saved us much time and manpower. Thank you again.

    The conversation ends

    Otherwise

Yes, I heard you made quite a mess out there. I trust you tried some method of non-violent resolve first.

Whatever transpired before, I hope they deserved the reckoning you brought upon them.

    The conversation ends

    If False

Yes, I heard a vemani made quite a mess of some Sappers at the Old Shore.

I trust you did this as an act of solidarity towards Garkai?

    • They had the stink of dishonesty. I knew they were someone's enemy.

Impressive intuition, outsider. Perhaps you could be of use to us.

Take this cache of Diyuul as a gift for the time and danger you've saved my guards.

      The conversation ends

    • Uhm - Yes?
    • I do things for myself.

Be that as it may. You've done a good turn for me and my guards, and so long as you behave in Garkai, I'll remember it.

Take this cache of Diyuul as a gift for the time and danger you've saved my guards.

Continues where this conversation already went

    • [Attack] Nope! I just love killing!

      Requires a Medium check of

You will die a fool's death!

      • Changes how the speaker feels about the player
      • Starts combat

Only while the quest is at the authored phase

  • How do I get to the %Old Shore%?

The %Old Shore% is in a small %valley% outside of {Garkai}. There's a %bridge% at the %south access to the city%. When you reach the other side, the valley is to the %southwest%.

Remember my words, for there is no remaining trail.

    The conversation ends

Only while Old Shore Sappers is started

  • I had some questions about the Sappers.

    Such as?

Only when the conversation's own flag sappersExactly is set

    • Surely this rag-tag group of bandits is no match for your guards?

You would be correct, but my guards are also my family. Karus I've known since they were knee-high.

The Sappers have sheer numbers - they do not fight with honor or pride.

I'm not willing to lose any of my family to trickery or the panicked violence of some sap addict - not If I can help it ...

      Returns to the previous choices

    • What are Sappers?

They're an organized group of bandits and low lives.

They trespass on hallowed and ceremonial lands, searching for Moonsap Mushrooms.

They'll extract a whole field and be gone within a few days - distribute the Moonsap in the city for profit.

      Returns to the previous choices

    • Where do they come from?

No one knows exactly. Their members comprise both elves and dwarves, and they have several outposts throughout Aruden - a bulk of them being underground.

I suspect the empire has their hand in this somehow.

      Returns to the previous choices

    • Why does it matter if they take a little Moonsap?

      It comes down to principle.

It does not belong to them, and they use it in ways that disgrace it's sacred properties.

Besides that, if you harvest the sap from the mushroom incorrectly - something a Sapper is very likely to do - the mushroom is ruined, and rots from the inside out.

Our Moonsap harvests are coming in smaller and smaller each year because of this.

      Returns to the previous choices

    • Let's talk about something else.

      Very well.

      The conversation ends

Only after the player has spoken to the speaker

Other entry points (5)

The game reaches these from elsewhere: a quest event, or another conversation.

I do not know much about their whereabouts outside of {Garkai} but the flock of {Sappers} we get yearly makes me believe you're correct.

Bring it back to where ever it is they come from, I would assume. Process it to be sold and distributed in their clandestine marketplaces.

Returns to the previous choices

Yes. Leeches that skulk our wetlands looking for groves of %Moonsap mushrooms%, usually far from civilization.

Once they find a suitable field, they set up camp and commence their operation, extracting all the {Moonsap} they can and circulating it through {Aruden} / {Ardenfall}.
