The game picks one. They are alternatives, in the order it prefers them.

Only while the quest holds the authored value

You reek of booze! Go sober up, no drunkards allowed in the port.

BY GRACE AND PETAL AND ROOT! WHAT IN THE THOUSAND HEAVENS JUST HAPPENED?!

The beacon is gone! By all the gods, I've never seen such a catastrophe!

The conversation ends

Only while Dying Light is succeeded

What is it? I'm incredibly busy.

Only when all of these hold:

Oh? A new face? No ships have docked in days. Tell me, vagrant - how did you arrive at my port? The Empire does not tolerate stowaways.

Only when the player has found

  • (Viridian Flame) [Lie] I'm a guest at the Viridian Flame Inn - I down came to see the water.

I see. You must've came by way of Ishgana by the north road.

Very well, then - go about your business.

Just mind yourself on the port.

    The conversation ends

  • Shipwrecked - we couldn't see anything through the fog. I crawled through a cave on the eastern hill to get here.

The conversation forks on the graph-variable check:

    If True

Hmph. A Sand Elf, shipwrecked so close to my port? Unfortunate. Did all survive?

Only when the player is racegroup_elf-sand

    • I was the only survivor - as far as I know.

Then count yourself fortunate. The sea claims its own, and few crawl back from its grasp - don't go expecting sympathy, though.

At any rate, you've satisfied my questions. Unless there’s more you wish to say, be on your way - I have a port to keep.

      • I have questions about the port and its workings.

Very well, but my time is valuable.

        The conversation ends

      • No, I’ll take my leave.

Then be swift about it. The docks are no place for loitering.

        The conversation ends

      • You stand unmoved. Do these lives truly mean so little to you?

Do not demand sentiment from a soldier. The sea takes its share, as it always has. My duty is not to fight the tide, but to keep what is Sazziad above water

Any other thoughts you'd like to share?

        Returns to the previous choices

    • I don't know if anyone else made it. Will you send for help? A search party perhaps?

Come now, you should know better than that, gurdayul / gurdayat - we'd only rescue a Sazziad vessel.

Whatever vessel you were aboard, it was no Sazziad ship. We've rerouted all ship traffic until the beacon is repaird.

Even if it were ... it's most likely nothing left but driftwood and bones.

Continues where this conversation already went

    • Will you not help? There could be others.

Hah. You think we have men to spare chasing ghosts in the fog? That wasn’t a Sazziad ship that sank - because we've rerouted all ships away from here until the beacon is repaird.

If there were others, they’ll either crawl out on their own, or they won’t.

Continues where this conversation already went

    If False

Tch. That’s what sailing blind through the fog gets you. If there were others, I doubt they were as lucky as you.

Continues where this conversation already went

  • The Empire?

    Only the first time

As I said before, I guard this port for the civilizing hand of the Sazziad Empire.

    The conversation ends

    The Sazziad Empire, of course.

Who else would I serve but the living embodiment of celestial will? Your local Ardenfall authorities? Ha! Good joke.

The conversation forks on what the game checks, in this order:

Only when the player is racegroup_elf-myst

It's clear that Ardenfall doesn't put much stock in educating its lower classes - even so, it's baffling that you didn't recognize the gleaming gold of Sazziad armor at a glance.

Our radiance illuminates even the dullest backwater hovels.

    If True

    Returns to the previous choices

Only when the player is racegroup_elf-sand

Were you hit on the head, perchance? It's hard to imagine a Sand Elf anywhere in the world that can't recognize a Sazziad soldier at a glance.

Continues where this conversation already went

  • Why have no ships docked?

Our beacon has stood dark for at least a week. There is no excuse for such neglect. By the heavens, he is a Sand Elf - one would think he'd take greater pride in his craft.

    Returns to the previous choices

  • I don't plan on staying - so don't worry about it.

If you can't answer my questions then leave this port. Go stir trouble elsewhere - unless you wish to find it with me.

    The conversation ends

Yes?

What the player can raise (6)

The game offers every topic whose requirement is met, in the order it prefers them.

Only while Dying Light is succeeded

  • What will the port guards do now that the beacon is gone?

Truly, I have no idea. The empire invested a lot of money into this lighthouse. Had specialists from the capital come over to install the beacon. I don't think they'll rebuild it anytime soon.

Perhaps we'll abandon the idea of turning Akaga into a port entirely. Wasn't such a good idea, after all, it seems. Looks like we'll just have to make do with the ports on the northern coastline.

And this place will go back to being a backwater village nobody cares about. Good riddance.

    The conversation ends

Only when the conversation's own flag greeting is set

  • What are you here to guard against?

While the ports of our empire bring prosperity and progress, they also attract much riff-raff.

Persons without documentation trying to cross the border, smugglers with illegal items sewn into their coats ... there are many who think free trade means they can ignore the regulations.

And most of the locals still haven't been properly civilized. These dullards walk across the dock touching everything they see, or they show up drunk and cause a scene.

For the sake of public order, no drunkards are allowed around the dock.

    The conversation ends

  • How long has the port been in Akaga?

Must've been about a decade now. A mere scratch on the scrolls of time - like everything we build, it shall stand for centuries to come, just like our glorious empire itself.

    The conversation ends

Only while Dying Light is succeeded

  • Why is the port so important?

Just look at what it's done to Akaga. *The guard spreads his arms.* You don't want to know what it was like here before we arrived - a collection of hovels smelling of stale fish.

I was here when the very foundation of the lighthouse was laid. The things I've seen ... these people desperately needed the civilizing touch of our imperial hand.

The first couple of years here were quite boring, but now even the locals are starting to learn Sazziad board games.

    Only the first time

    • Your work seems important.

I assure you it is of the upmost importance.

Along with luxuries these people could never have dreamed of, our port brought high culture to a town that sorely needed it.

      The conversation ends

    • Aye, so you've seen your share of trouble and then some?

I watched two fisherwomen stand barefoot in an alley covered in spilled fish guts, holding a conversation as if nothing was wrong ...

To let such filthy offal touch their bare skin - utterly barbaric! Don't they know bare feet should only ever touch soft carpets and lush vegetation?

      Returns to the previous choices

    • Aye, the Empire’s a shining beacon, and you're its proudest pawn.

*The elf laughs.* Better a proud pawn than a lost soul without purpose!

Go roll around in the mud with the rest of gutterborn, vagabond.
