Openers (2)

The game picks one. They are alternatives, in the order it prefers them.

Only after the player has spoken to the speaker

*The young man smiles.* Welcome, stranger. I hope your travels are kinder on you than my work on me, hah.

The conversation ends

*He nods to you.* Welcome again, stranger. What brings you here again?

The conversation ends

What the player can raise (3)

The game offers every topic whose requirement is met, in the order it prefers them.

  • Farewell.

The graph connects this choice to nothing, so the conversation stops here.

  • Who are you?

Me? I am just a worker here, as you can see. *He says, before adding in hushed tone.* But some could say that word worker wouldn't fit here...

    The conversation ends

  • Can I ask you about something personal?

If you are quick about it. Overseer doesn't like us chatting with strangers. *He grins.* Luckily for you, I don't care about what HE likes.

Only when the player is racegroup_elf-sand

    • Do you like your work?

*The young man smiles bitterly.* Not all of us have a say in whether we want to work here, and I am one of them. We are bound by law.

The local lord, by his decree, has forced my people to choose between abandoning our ways and serving him, whether we like it or not. As you can see... I may not speak like the elders of our tribes, but I still believe in our ways.

      • Local lord?

*He snickers.* Of course, the great and glorious Lord Arakasha. He is the governor of these lands by decree of the Empire. He answers only to them, as far as I know. He is so wealthy it is damn filthy.

As you can assume, my people have not a lot of love for him. But better not to speak about that loudly.

        Returns to the previous choices

      • Your people?

You're not from around here, it's easy to see, but are you so far away that you've never heard of Bone Charmers? Ha, maybe I just committed the sin of pride, but I am still surprised.

My people are ancient, but I have neither the time nor the knowledge to explain our history, if you will forgive me. You see, I am not here of my own free will. And they are quite miserly when it comes to laziness.

Continues where this conversation already went

      • What do you mean by 'bound by law'? Are you a slave?

*When you say the word 'slave', he winces and bites his lip. * When you say it like that, it sounds shameful... but it is not far from the truth. I am in my fourth year here, out of seven. This is how we pay for sticking to our way.

Mind you, there are those among us who fight back. But those tribes are far away. I cannot speak on their behalf. If you find them, you can ask them.

They will be able to answer your questions with much more... freedom of speech. *He says, putting the emphasis on the word 'freedom'.*

Continues where this conversation already went

      • That sounds cruel. Does Empire agree with this?

The conversation forks on the graph-variable check:

        If True

*He considers your carefully for a brief moment, raising his eyebrow.* That is weird for one of the East to ask. But maybe you are simply of their race.

*His tone becomes strained.* The Empire doesn't give a damn broken coin when it comes to my people.. To them, we are little more than a local curiosity. As long as our 'dear' Lord Arakasha pays them their tribute and taxes, they can do as they please with us.

*He sighs, a little bit of pressure coming out of his voice.* This is not easy to admit, but it is not the whole truth. We are protected by the basic laws of Sazziad, they can't just slaughter us or work us to death. But we are still slaves, in all but name.

None of us are happy about it... well, most of us. *He says, looking towards the small house nearby.* But we will not give them pleasure of killing ourselves on their blades.

Continues where this conversation already went

        If False

*He sighs.* I am not surprised you would ask about it, especially if you are from far away. The situation isn't a simple one.

Continues where this conversation already went

      • Let us get back to my previous questions.

        Returns to the previous choices

    • Why are so many bones hanging there?

*He raises his hand and chuckles.* That is a work of the Old One. If I am merely disciple of our ways, he is one of the masters. He hanged them by his sleeping place and he claims that they 'whisper to him'.

Honestly, you should ask HIM about that. I do not talk with him much. He thinks I am way too... modern in my thinking. But I don't blame him.

Do you know how hard is it to keep to the old way of speaking that we used before Sazziad came? Too damn hard, that is what I will tell you. Just talk to him, you will see. *He chuckles.*

      Returns to the previous choices

    • I noticed you are looking at me with some surprise.

I have seen very few of your people here, that is all. You are, one can say, unusual sight. At least on this farm, friend!

      Returns to the previous choices

    • What do you think about Ardenfall?

*He sighs.* That is a broad questions, stranger. What exactly do you mean?

      • Tell me about people.

If there is a word that describes all of people of Ardenfall, it is a word 'DIVIDED'. *He smiles, somewhat sadly.*

People here rarely are on friendly terms with each other, unless they are kin or neighbours. Different clans have different ideas of who should have what. Conflicts of interests are common.

Be careful who you trust and what do you do with trust of others. It may cost you your life, friend.

        Returns to the previous choices

      • Tell me about the land itself.

You would be surprised how varied in can be in some other areas of it. I travelled a bit before I was... assigned to this work and I can tell you - wander it yourself. See Ardenfall and then you shall know it.

It gives plenty of things to people that can take care of themselves. Still, be careful. Local beasts are as dangerous as anywhere else.

More than one person found their end falling down some remore ravine. Or torn apart by hungry things in wilderness. Travel armed and well prepared.

Continues where this conversation already went

      • Tell me about the history.

*He sighs. before shaking his head.* I never was a person for learning history, let alone telling someone about it. It is weighty matter and this piece of land, I heard, saw plenty of wonderous and horrible things.

You should find a scholar, in some bigger place, than ask some worker on remote farm about it. *He chuckles, winking to you.*

Continues where this conversation already went

      • Tell me about its future.

*He laughs.* You are pulling my leg now, aren't you? I am a worker on some Forsaken-By-Carvings plantation, how should I know?

Continues where this conversation already went

      • Thank you for answering my questions.

        Returns to the previous choices

    • That is all, thank you.

      The conversation ends
