Openers (2)

The game picks one. They are alternatives, in the order it prefers them.

Only after the player has spoken to the speaker

*The old Wind Wizard looks up at you sharply, then studies your appearance. His eyes trace over your gear too. He appears to be gauging your skill ... or perhaps threat.*

You speak with Tetsuya, stranger... I've got duties to attend to that can't be ignored, but we should speak of grave matters for a moment.

Only after the player has spoken to the speaker

You have returned.

Surely, you have better things to attend to... perhaps better things to seek out than speak with this old fool.

What the player can raise (6)

The game offers every topic whose requirement is met, in the order it prefers them.

Only after the player has spoken to the speaker

  • [Guage him] *Stare back at the old man.*

Requires a Medium check of Strength

Hmm, I can see that you certainly aren't weak, good. *The old man nods in approval.*

    The conversation ends

  • What's on your mind?

I'll be blunt with you, I am vexed.

I am powerless to act, but I can share my woes with you. The woes of our people, our tribe.

    The conversation ends

  • Grave Matters? What do you mean?

Only when the conversation's own flag What's wrong with the tribe? unlock is set

  • What's wrong with the tribe?

Where to begin... *The old man's eyes become razor sharp as he stares off toward the hill of the encampment.*

We’ve been hunted, make no mistake. By a blood cult - beasts in human skin. What they want with our lifeblood, I cannot say, but they keep coming for us, as if drawn to Ishgana by some curse.

Some of our kin have been taken from us.

    • So your Chief won't let you fight back?

Aye. She forbids it. Says the cycle of blood must be broken, that we’ll damn ourselves if we strike back. Maybe she believes that. Maybe she’s just afraid to see what we’ve become.

      Returns to the previous choices

    • Who could I talk to if I did want to help?

Ugh… You would have to speak to our so-called Chief, Renhai.

If you’ve a mind to speak with her, you’ll find her holed up in her yurt - curtains drawn, incense burning, pretending the world outside has gone quiet. She calls it “keeping the peace.” I call it hiding.

And she’d have us all do the same - sit in the dark and pray the storm forgets us.

      Returns to the previous choices

    • Does your village not fiight back against this cult?

Hah, my people will not take up arms - the Chief forbids it. Says violence will only bring more suffering. Maybe she’s right… but tell that to the ones already taken. We sit idle while the cult grows bolder, and she calls it mercy. I call it surrender.

We are wasting our time building defenses, walls won't be enough to keep them out. I've heard stories of the manner of sorcery they practice - nothing short of death will stop them.

I am old enough to know that caging onself like an animal and hoping the beasts will abate is naive... and deadly.

You're not from here, but maybe you are the one that can help us. To help us from ourselves.

If I was still captain of the guard, I'd hire you for an expedition to discover those responsible for abducting our people.

      Returns to the previous choices

    • Who is this blood cult?

No one knows their true name. They're practitioners of a dark and forbidden art - blood magic. Work so foul a necromancer would avert their gaze.

      Returns to the previous choices

    • Tell me about the missing Wind Wizards.

Kinji and Ninsei… both good Karu.

Kinji’s our enchanter - he gave life to tools and trinkets, and made the work of our hands just a little lighter. Ninsei hunts for the village, steady aim and a kinder heart than most.

I still pray to the Ori for their return… though somewhere deep down I know prayers won’t pierce the kind of darkness that claimed them.

      Returns to the previous choices

    • I wanted to ask about something else.

      Very well.

      The conversation ends

Only when the conversation's own flag You're the captain of the guard? unlock is set

  • You were the captain of the guard?

Indeed, I was. But I have been demoted to carry out menial tasks. A punishment for my lapse in judgement, but my convictions were justified, I promise you.

Answer me this wanderer, have you ever been compelled by your ideals to be violent?

    • I prefer to solve problems with wit, not brawn.

      Ah, a mediator.

When someone is determined to end your life, I wonder how your words will fare.

Alas, my fellow tribesmen believe that the goal of harmony is obtainable through peaceful actions alone.

Now is not the time for being meek, now is the time for survival.

I am resigned to my fate here though Viasha. I will continue to fortify the camp but I believe it is your strength that we need.

      The conversation ends

    • In my line of work, violence is inevitable. It is the way of the world.

How different your life must be from those in this camp.

They would sooner apologize than begin a fight. You have my respect.

Continues where this conversation already went

    • If the coin is right, then someone's gonna bleed.

      Oh? A killer for hire...

If I had the coin I would emply you immediately. Perhaps you will help us for free.

Continues where this conversation already went

    • I avoid it if I can, but sometimes there is no other way.

No other way ... *The stern old man trails off muttering this line several times before regaining his composure.*

Indeed, there always comes a time for violence in our lives. I pray that you muster the courage when it comes.

Continues where this conversation already went

    • I strive to stay on the path of peace.

Peace? Would you run from even the smallest of {javaks}?

You would fit in well here, traveller.

Continues where this conversation already went

    • All the time ... and I revel in it.

You're a dangerous sort aren't you? I hope we can count on you to help us, and not have your bloodlust used against us.

Continues where this conversation already went

Only when the conversation's own flag Who are you? unlock is set

  • What is your role here?

I'm the... *He sighs overtly, as if remembering a painful memory.*

I'm nobody important, stranger. Just a father - and a member of what remains of this... fragile tribe.

    The conversation ends
