Only while Cleaned Up is succeeded

Thanks for helping! Wowee!

Only while “Help find a way to improve Hidari's image” is started in Cleaned Up

Water! Of course! The simplest of all solutions!

Not quite as thorough a cleansing as I hoped, but good enough. Still a little sooty, but my hair stopped smoking. This way, I can face her without looking ridiculous!

Water quenches fire and washes dirt away. Why didn't I think of it? Too many complex formulae in my head... I keep forgetting the simplest things. Thank you, my friend, for doing the simple thinking in my stead!

Perfect! I am all presentable for my dear Shunisa, then. Let's go, and hope for the best.

Shunisa, my dear! It is truly a pleasure to spend time with you. Your smile brightens my day whenever I see it... which is almost every time you visit my shop.

I'd like to ask you... would you like to be at my side? As man and woman. I always wanted to ask you, but... well... now I ask you. Would you like to be mine as I shall be yours?

Oh, Hidari, you fool! Why didn't you say so sooner? I smile because I like you - had I known you like me too, I would have said something! But you're always so distracted, I didn't think you had an eye for me.

The conversation forks on the graph-variable check:

How I always loved the dance of the smoke above your head, as if the most joyous of wind spirits live in your hair! I want to dance with you just like that smoke, hand in hand as our hair is blown by the wind.

*She grins, her eyes fixed on the smoldering mess atop Hidari's head.* And the smoke. Look at how animated it is! As if it's just as happy as I am. Yes, of course I want to be with you! A thousand times yes! I was worried you'd never ask!

You do! Oh, by the spirits, of course you do! I'm such a fool. For all the alchemy I know, I never managed to discern the meaning of the sparks that glittered in your eyes. I thought you always looked at the smoke in my hair because you thought it was ridiculous!

*She barks out a bright laugh.* My foolish alchemist! Not at all - I find it alluring. So, so alluring. I love the soot and the smoke and the smell of smoldering fire and acrid potions and the sweat of an honest working man driven by curiosity and pride in his craft.

Never change, my dear Hidari. I want you just as you are.

The winds have never blown warmer than on this blessed day! Shunisa, my love, may we walk together until our souls join the spirits in their eternal dance!

And even then, my dear Hidari, may we ride the wind together for all time, our hearts entwined!

If True

But oh - what happened to your hair? The tendrils of smoke that always dance around your head, gone! What did you do?

I washed it! *He bites his lip, slightly nervous.* Don't you like it? I thought I'd make myself presentable before coming to meet you. I couldn't show myself with my head smoking like a steaming cauldron!

*She lets out a disappointed sigh, but there is humor in her expression.* You fool! Didn't you notice how my eyes always wandered to your hair? I loved to watch the smoke dance around your head like playful wind spirits! You shouldn't have washed it.

Oh, Hidari. *She shakes her head and shows him a smile.* Promise me you won't wash again. As your woman, I forbid it. And your woman I will be, without question! How long have I waited for you to ask me!

I always liked you, my foolish alchemist. Now that I know you like me too, my heart sings like the joyous wind.

I would never have thought - *Hidari runs a hand through his hair, barely able to believe what he heard.* You liked the soot and smoke? Truly? By the spirits, had I known! I went to such trouble to get cleaned, and all for naught!

  • Very well. I'll help you clean up.

Thank you! For all my expertise in composing concoctions, a cleansing agent has yet eluded me... the help of a more worldly assistant will be invaluable.

One as widely traveled as you probably has need to bathe quite regularly, yes? Bring me whatever you use for bathing, that should get the soot and smoke out of my hair!

  • I brought you some soap. That should get the soot out.

Ah! Of course! A very simple cleaning agent. I use it on occasion to clean my robes. How did I not think of trying it on my hair? Alas, the simplest solutions require simpler minds to uncover!

Not to imply you are simple-minded, of course. Merely that your mind is more in tune with, ah, the outside world and its conventions. Mine is too preoccupied with alchemical formulae and often forgets.

Now, let's give it a try... yes, this should work just fine!

Only while “Help find a way to improve Hidari's image” is started in Cleaned Up

  • Actually, Shunisa said she likes you as you are. She's particulary fond of the dancing smoke above your head.

She does? *His eyes widen in surprise.* By the spirits, is that why she keeps throwing glances at my hair whenever she comes to purchase a potion? I thought it was because she found it ridiculous!

But yes, of course - oh, if only I were as knowledgable in the ways of women as I am in the ways of brewing! Those glances were not of ridicule, but fascination! The way her eyes always trace the tendrils of my smoke. I should have guessed!

No need for a cleanup, then. I shall leave my hair as is, smoldering like a slowmatch fuse on its way to ignite our hearts.
