*His lips purse as he notices you.* There shall be silence between us, as agreed. Goodbye.

*Startled, the elf flinches back as he notices you.* By the spirits! What are you doing here, in the middle of the night?!
*He stares at you apprehensively, awaiting your answer.*

What are you doing at someone else's tent at such a late hour?
It may seem a little strange to you, but I'm here to repair WORKER's figurines. His work is shoddy, but it has potential. He kept throwing it out, so I decided to help out a little, fix his mistakes. A little bit of encouragement, I thought.
Now he thinks the spirits are shaping his work. I can't blame him - what would you think if your work mysteriously improved overnight?
Now I keep doing it, because it boosts his confidence. And, admittedly, I enjoy it. I'm an alchemist by day and don't have much opportunity to indulge in the arts otherwise.
I didn't expect that, but it's as good a reason as any to break into your friend's home. Don't worry, I'll keep your secret.
*He releases a deep breath, relaxing a little bit.* Thank you, friend. I'm glad you understand. I think I should lay low for a while, let him hone his craft on his own. Then, when he worries that the spirits have left him, I'll come back.
I can't risk him figuring out the truth. *He whips his head around, nervously scanning the area.* Should be more careful. Had I been found by someone else...
Anyway, thank you again. May the spirits be with you, outsider - like they are with my friend here.

I've dabbled in the arts myself... but I've never encountered such a creative form of mentorship before. Don't worry, I'll keep your secret - it's quite endearing.
*His lips curl into a smile when he realizes you share his passion for art.* It's the only way I can help my friend without breaking the bounds of my profession. A form of mentorship, yes - all I want is for his art to improve!
As a fellow artist, please accept this gift. One of my best figurines. I think you'll appreciate it. It's the least I can do to thank you for your silence. The truth of this matter should never come out.

As a fellow artist, I can't approve of your method. If he believes the spirits fix his work every night, he'll never improve. You must tell him the truth!
*He shakes his head with vigor.* I cannot. The truth would break his spirit.
You're an alchemist, yes? What would you think if someone broke into your home and prepared your concoctions at night? Wouldn't make you much of an alchemist.
Wouldn't it? *He cocks his head, rubbing his chin.* No, it wouldn't. You're right. If someone else did all the work for me, I'd never learn how to do it myself.
You're right. I only wanted to help, but in all my enthusiasm I lost sight of my goal. His work hasn't gotten any better, and why would it - the spirits fix his mistakes every night, after all!
By the spirits, if I keep doing this, his work might even get worse! I must come clean to him and talk about this. He won't be happy, I'm certain, but he'll understand. I only wanted to help, after all.

He needs to improve on his own. If you keep fixing his mistakes, he'll never learn to do it himself. What good are you doing him with this?
If reason won't get to you, perhaps my fist will. Stop this, and never come back, or you'll carve the next figurine from your teeth.
Your fist? By the spirits, don't hurt me! I'll do what you want, if that's what it takes. But if this is how you resolve all disagreements, no wonder you outsiders never have peace...

Then at least be quieter about it. You've been noticed. Tonight, I caught you - who will tomorrow?
To my great shock, yes. I'm glad it was you, outsider, but what if another night it's one of our own... perhaps I shouldn't come here every night. Still, I have to keep helping my friend, lest he thinks the spirits abandoned him!
Why so secretive? Just approach him during the day and offer your help!
Approach him? And say what? *He shakes his head.* I'm an alchemist. He's a craftsman. Our professions were ordained by the Ori Tree. I cannot break its laws by openly trespassing into another's profession.
Adorable story, but you'll be discovered sooner or later if you keep sneaking like this. Your gait is too noticeable, both noise and shape.
Requires a Medium check of Stealth
My gait? I'm not sure I get your meaning... I try to stick to the shadows and avoid loud surfaces. Is that not enough?
Perhaps I shall demonstrate. Watch and learn.
*He watches in awe as you move your body. Your feet make no sound as they glide across the floor, and your shape blends into the shadows, your passing indistinguishable from the flicker of the light.*
By the spirits, you're almost invisible! I don't think - no, I can't move like that. But perhaps... yes, thank you for showing me. Perhaps I can try.
You should tell him the truth. He deserves to know.
All right, I'll keep your secret - but my silence is worth a few diyuul, don't you think?
*With a narrow-eyed look, he pulls a pouch from his belt.* Blackmail, then? Very well. Have your diyuul, but know that I despise opportunists like you. Money for silence - just as you won't speak of this, I no longer wish to speak to you.

The Ori Tree gave you a purpose. For how much longer do you want to defy its will?
*His eyes widen, and he recoils in horror, as if you had struck him with a blade.* By the spirits, you speak the truth. I knew I shouldn't have... I did it in secret because I didn't want to break the law, but it makes no difference, does it?
Whether he knows it or not, by fixing his work I interfere with his purpose. It is not on me to improve his work, but on himself. Otherwise, the Ori Tree would have assigned me to be a craftsman.
Thank you for reminding me of the law. I shall interfere with his work no more.

I could ask *you* the same thing.
I was told about a shadowy figure sneaking around here at night. If you tried to be stealthy, you didn't do a good job.
*The elf mutters a silent curse under his breath and gives you a troubled look.* Listen. I am not a thief. I know what it looks like, but my reason for being here is much more charitable.
*Startled, the elf flinches back as he notices you.* By the spirits! What are you doing here, in the middle of the night?!
Only while Snooping Around is succeeded
*He looks directly in your eyes before speaking in a surprisingly warm tone.* So, you told WORKER the truth, eh?
It was the right thing to do, and you know it.
*He chuckles.* Aye, in the end, I suppose it was.
He was very kind to me, despite my deception. He even shared some supplies with me... we're going to collaborate on a big project together.
All thanks to you. *He nods.* The world works in strange ways. I must give you thanks for telling him. Our combined efforts will only refine the quality of Ishgana's renowned craftsmanship.
We plan to make a statue of the spirits that so graciously guided you towards us. The perfect ending to the story, don't you think? *He shows you a wink.*

I did.
And to be honest, I'm glad you did.
Well, uh...
*The elf barks out a laugh as he notices your troubled expression.* Oh, spirits, you should have seen your face! Don't worry, I'm not angry.
I don't know what you are talking about. Must have been spirits.
*He smiles mysteriously.* Ah, of course. The spirits, may we forever be blessed by their touch.
Welcome, my fellow artist.
Welcome, my friend.

Welcome. Can I help you with something?
What the player can raise (2)
The game offers every topic whose requirement is met, in the order it prefers them.
DId you tell WORKER what you were supposed to?
*He nods with a smile.* Oh, yes, I did. To my surprise, he was not mad at all - well, perhaps a little, at first. But he allowed me to explain myself. After a while, he admitted that his work can be pretty terrible sometimes.
And in the end, he shared his supplies with me. We collaborate now - he does the rough shape, I do the details. Got some big plans for the future. A large statue depicting a helpful spirit. The perfect piece for us to work on, don't you think?

How is your friend's artisanship going?
*He gives you a wink.* Ah, great. We're lucky to have a craftsman of his caliber - he is truly blessed by the spirits!
