Openers (10)

The game picks one. They are alternatives, in the order it prefers them.

Only when the game's own check passes. The compendium cannot name what it reads (Graph Variable).

Why are you still here? Leave, the path is open.

Only while the quest holds the authored value

You fool! Always the outsiders, prying where they do not belong, stirring the spirits against us!

Hiamo may now bring supplies again - but at what cost?

We are left with the blood of a great beast staining our shores, its carcass rotting in pieces outside our homes.

What's done is done. The pass is free. I ask you to leave Bisawa, outsider.

The conversation ends

Only while the quest holds the authored value

I thank you for your help. Our village will once again be able to recieve supplies and trade.

You have my thanks, [player]. Supplies and trade may return to us now. I would not have guessed it - but the beast has gone back to the sea, and our food store yet stands.

You have my welcome, then - an honored guest in Bisawa

The conversation ends

Only while the quest holds the authored value

I told you not to interfere and look whats happened!

You’ve set my people in a place of great peril. In your cities, such a crime would see you locked away to wither.

Since we have no guards to hold you, leave Bisawa - now and forever!

The conversation ends

Only while the quest holds the authored value

You! You’re to blame for this. You’ve brought the creature down upon the very room that holds our food stores!

The pass is open - you have no business here. Leave us.

The conversation ends

Only while the quest holds the authored value

I saw the creature wriggling about, much smaller in stature.

You have unblocked the pass for us, but in the process you've altered the body of the creature.

You have my thanks, but unease as well. What you’ve wrought is against the natural order, and its mark will carry farther than you think.

The conversation ends

Only when the player is racegroup_dwarf

I know not what manner of creature you are, or what brought you to Bisawa - but you are not welcome here.

This village bends beneath its own weight, stranger. An outsider’s feet dragging through our sands would only press us lower.

Its best you seek another shore.

Only when the player is racegroup_dwarf

  • <player_race = red dwarf ? "I'm a Red Dwarf" : "I'm an Obsidian Dwarf">. There are few of us in Ardenfall.

Few or many, it makes no difference. A stranger is a stranger. Better your kind than the Nayyar, yet I cannot permit you to stay.

    Returns to the previous choices

  • What burdens your people?

Many unbelievers on the face of the sea - many strangers of these waters. The hearts of these outsiders anger the spirits.

Because of this, the spirits have cursed us with this fog which makes the sea mad.

Luring creatures from the deep to our shallows and wedged itself in a cave that blocks our trade road and looms directly above the food store.

Another stranger will only worsen the spirits’ ire.

    • Permit me to remain, and I’ll clear the trade road - then be gone.

You speak as though the beast were but driftwood or a pile of stone. It is no mere object to be pushed aside.

It is a thing of the spirits - dwelling in this realm but not owned by it. Any shortcut you take would wound it and bring greater ruin upon Bisawa.

This matter is not for strangers. I will not allow it. I ask you again - depart from here.

      • I give my hand freely and respectfully. I will bring no harm to this creature.

The conversation forks on the graph-variable check:

        If True

The hand of a Nayyar does not give - it only takes what it wants - clanging with golden ores from the earth.

Is it not your kind who walk beneath the red flower, and bring ruin in their shadow?

        • I bear no bond with the Sazziads. I can have the pass freed, but I’ll need food and rest first.

Fine. You may linger for a short while as you try and clear the pass - but if I see any harm come to my village, I will hold you directly responsible.

Do not mistake this for a welcome. Until the beast is driven from the pass, you are no guest in Bisawa - only another burden we suffer.

The conversation forks on the graph-variable check:

          If True

There is a hermit called Yogek, living in Sinang Hallow. If your will is set on dislodging the creature, he alone may hold the knowledge.

Either way, I believe he's our best hope of removing this creature safely.

          Vali, traveler - act wisely.

          The conversation ends

        • So your mind’s set, superficial as it is. I’ll find my own way out of this backwater.

Judge my mind as you like, Nayyar. Shallow or deep, it makes no difference. What matters here is my word. And I say you will not stay in Bisawa.

If you cannot pass the road, then go make your company with the mad alchemist in Sinang Hollow. He may grant you more courtesies than us.

The conversation forks on the quest-state check:

          If false

          • Runs AddJournalEntryNode

          The conversation ends

        • I take nothing but the lives of fools who insult me.
          • Changes how the speaker feels about the player

You speak of taking lives as though it were treasure. It correctly marks you with cowardice - the way of a people who come clad in metal, seizing what is not theirs.

We fear you not, Nayyar. Leave Bisawa, and don't come back.

If you cannot pass the road, then go make your company with the mad alchemist in Sinang Hollow. He may grant you more courtesies than us.

Continues where this conversation already went

        If False

Fine. Linger if you must. Though, with the trade route blocked we have nothing for you.

Do not mistake this for a welcome. Until the beast is driven from the pass, you are no guest in Bisawa - only another burden we suffer.

Continues where this conversation already went

      • Do you and your village think this creature a god?

We know not what it is, nor do we pretend to. But it comes from the spirits of the sea - from the cold, dark deep. A messenger, perhaps.

If it can be returned safely, I would see it so.

        Returns to the previous choices

      • Very well. I will deal with this myself.

Then deal with it quick, and be gone quicker. You'll find little here but cursed waters and closed doors.

Make company with the mad alchemist that lives in the hollow, or test your fate in the whirlpools, I care little.

Continues where this conversation already went

    • How long has the creature been lodged in the pass?

Many moons have passed since the beast came, and our stores have grown thin.

      Returns to the previous choices

    • What manner of creature is it?

A great horned monster, born of the deep places. A head full of many eyes and its maw wide enough to swallow an elf in one bite.

Continues where this conversation already went

    • When did this fog show up?

The conversation forks on the graph-variable check:

      If False

When the Nayyar landed on our shores.

      Returns to the previous choices

      If True

When many that resemble yourself started landing along our shores.

Continues where this conversation already went

    • Which spirits have I stirred against you?

The sea holds countless spirits, stranger. Of wave and reef, and of the black deep below. They have been especially wrathful these past years.

      Returns to the previous choices

  • I meant only to pass your village, but a great beast has wedged itself in the pass.

My village knows this creature. A judgment of the spirits. They laid the fog upon us, and the sea grew mad.

The fog which lures creatures from the depths - one of which is colossal, and lodged in the pass to Akaga, closing our trade road and casting its mass over our food stores.

These curses were stirred by unbelievers and outsiders upon these waters. Another stranger will only worsen the spirits’ ire.

This is why you must leave.

Continues where this conversation already went

  • I came from the neighboring bay through a cave.

Then to the bay you must return - you must go anywhere but here.

Many unbelievers traverse the face our waters - many strangers. The hearts of these outsiders anger the sea-spirits, who have laid the fog upon us.

It drives the sea mad, luring creatures from the deep to our reefs and shores. One of which is colossal, and lodged in the pass to Akaga, closing our trade road and casting its mass over our food stores.

Another stranger will only worsen the spirits’ ire.

Continues where this conversation already went

  • No voyage of mine sought Bisawa. The storm cast me here against my will.

Storm or no, the fog is no accident. A curse laid upon us, it whips the sea into madness and rises beasts from the depths into our reefs - even to our shores.

One such creature is of monstrous proportions and has come up on land and blocked our trade route to Akaga.

Another stranger here will only deepen the wrath of the sea-spirits. You must take your leave.

Continues where this conversation already went

  • I'll be gone as soon as I've learned where I am and how to leave.

Then learn quick, and be gone quicker. There is little here for you but cursed waters and closed doors.

You'll need to go by sea or mountain, for the pass is blocked by a great creature of the deep.

Perhaps make company with the mad alchemist that lives in the hollow - but leave here.

Only when the player is racegroup_elf-sand

I know not what brought you to Bisawa, Nayyar - but you are not welcome here.

This village bends beneath its own weight, stranger. An outsider’s feet dragging through our sands would only press us lower.

Perhaps it is time you, and the rest of the Nayyar who trouble these waters, returned across the great sea to your own shores.

I know not what brought you to Bisawa - but you are not welcome here.

Only when all of these hold:

Seek out Yogek, the hermit of the Sinang Hallow. If anyone has some sort solution to this, it will be him.

What the player can raise (4)

The game offers every topic whose requirement is met, in the order it prefers them.

Only when all of these hold:

  • I wanted to ask some questions about Yogek.

    I'll permit it.

    • Where is Sinang Hallow?

Just east of here, between Bisawa and the pass. A fair place, but perilous.

They say it was once the sea-bed itself, long ago - old as the waters, and treacherous still.

      Returns to the previous choices

    • Where in Sinang Hallow does the hermit Yogek stay?

That I cannot say. Few of us set foot in the Sinang. It is Yogek who comes here on occasion, seeking supplies for his alchemy.

Continues where this conversation already went

    • That's all I had to ask.

      Was there something else?

      The conversation ends

Only while Between a rock and a hard place is started

  • I wanted to ask about the creature.

    I'll permit it.

    • If you know such an alchemist, why not ask him to simply blow the creature to bits?

I’ve told you already - the creature lies above our food stores. Any disturbance would send it crashing down upon our supplies.

If folly is all you offer, then leave us be. Swim for Akaga, and let the whirlpools test your fate.

      Returns to the previous choices

    • Do your people think this creature a god?

We know not what it is, nor do we pretend to. But it comes from the spirits of the sea - from the cold, dark deep. A messenger, perhaps.

Good - that's enough talk. I've permitted more than is wise already.

  • As I have resolved your trade route, perhaps some gold for a weary traveler?

Requires a Custom check of Speech

*The elder blinks.* Ah, outsiders. Always looking for wealth, as if it would fill the gaping hole in their heart.

I suppose a gift is only fair. Here, a small token of our appreciation. Now please, leave us be.

*The elder blinks.* We never agreed on a payment, outsider. In fact, if memory serves, I do not recall us asking for your aid.

    Please, be on your way.

Only while Between a rock and a hard place is completed

  • Now that I've saved your city, I believe payment is necessary.

*The elder blinks.* Ah, travelers. Always looking for wealth, as if it would fill the gaping hole in their heart.

We never agreed on a payment, outsider. In fact, if memory serves, I do not recall us asking for your aid.

    • Naturally, and yet here you are, providing thanks. Let's settle this honorably.

*The elf shakes his head slowly* You speak of honor... your words are hollow, used only to persuade and twist your prey.

Take this. And be on your way.

    • I'll break your neck if I do not see gold in my hands!

*The elves' eyes flash* As I thought. You are lucky Nisa did not hear your threat, or you would have been struck down in a heartbeat.

Take this, and get out of my village.

Continues where this conversation already went

    • The merchant's road has been unblocked, allowing trade to flourish. Is that not worth a few coins?

*The elf sighs wearily* If a few coins you need, a few coins I can give, as thanks for what you have done for us.
