- A quest character: Where the Wind Blows
Openers (11)
The game picks one. They are alternatives, in the order it prefers them.
Only when all of these hold:
Only while the quest holds the authored value
Only while “Return to Ishgana and talk to Renhai” is started in Where the Wind Blows
So … you and Tama saw fit to arrange this affair behind my back? I see ...
... Well, then ...
I suppose both gratitude and apology are due. I was too hasty in turning you away. Since our wizards' return, the Ori Tree has flourished once more, its life rekindled.

If True
I'm sorry to hear that violent means were necessary in achieving your goal.
Nevertheless, we are greatful to have our kith and kin back with us saftely.
Please accept these gifts as thanks, and consider joining us as an honorary guest at our upcoming festival.
- Triggers an event in Where the Wind Blows
I would be glad to join your festival.
- Sets the quest started A Breath of Fresh Air
You have earned that right. When the time comes, you will stand among us - not as an outsider, but as one who fought for Ishgana and the Ori Tree.
There will be much excitement in Ishgana for the festival. If you wish to involve yourself, speak with Tama - she oversees the preparations. Just don’t get in her way.
The conversation ends
I wanted to talk about something.
Of course, it's the least I could do.

Not only that, but from what I've heard not a soul was harmed in the process.
I know you may not agree with it, but I appreciate your efforts all the more, [player].
Only while the quest is at the authored phase
So, this is the viasha I have to thank for saving my wizards, and it even appears our Ori Tree.

I'm sorry to hear that violent means were necessary in achieving your goal.
Nevertheless, we are greatful to have our kith and kin back with us saftely.
But may I ask, what brought you to that awful place?
I was led by forces far beyond myself. I don't believe in such profound coincidence.
I couldn't have said it better myself, viasha.
No matter the reason, we're incredibly thankful you were there.
I have a habit of taking the strangest paths, completely by accident.
What you call an accident, I will happily refer to as a miracle.
Bandits and cults inhabiting ruins isn't irregular. I saw the telltale signs and knew something was amiss
What a miracle a man of moral caliber would pass by such a place!
Wrong place at the right time, I suppose.
I won't press the matter. Why let curiosity sour such a miraculous occasion?
Pure coincidence.
I don't know.

I am eternally grateful. If you ever need of anything, just ask of it.

TRAITOR! MURDEROUS, TRAITOR!
Ishgana spoke the truth all along. The world beyond our borders is teeming with soulless marauders who slay for only the thrill of it.
Leave, now and forever.
The conversation ends
Only while Where the Wind Blows is unstarted
*A tall elf stands stiffly before you. An elegant headdress adorns her dark braided hair, and her untrusting eyes. Her arm tightens around an old black book - she speaks firmly.*
Outsider - as chief of Ishgana, I demand you state your purpose here.
Only when the player has found
I know where your missing Wind Wizards are.
*Renhai's posture stiffens, her presence heavy and unwavering, though her voice stays calm.* Where are my villagers? Do you work with the Flesh Wroughters?
Assuming you mean those hooded fiends - no, I don't work with them.
I would never take an outsider at their word. You have also yet to answer my most pressing question, so I will ask again.
Where are my wizards?
Returns to the previous choices
They're alive - caged in some ruin deep within Shisivi Wood.
*Renhai seems taken back by the mention of the forest.* It appears the worst of my fears have been confirmed.
The hooded figures you speak of - the Flesh Wroughters - they've been seen skulking around Ishgana for sometime.
Now, they hold my wizards captive for their sick, forbidden sorcery. Spirits know what may happen if they're not stopped.
It is a very rare occasion that I accept the help of an outsider - however, in this case ... you know the precise location of my Wind Wizards.
Not only that, you've already managed to make it in and out of the compound by whatever means.
If you'd be willing viasha, I'd like to ask your help in bringing my wizards home.
I'd be honored to bring your missing Wind Wizards home to Ishgana.
- Triggers an event in Where the Wind Blows
Thank you, viasha.
Prepare yourself well - do not make me regret this.
I had some questions about my current objective.
I will answer to the best of my abilities.
Where is Shisivi Wood?
Only the first time
Proceed through the eastern palisades of Ishgana, and follow the dirt road over the hill. When the path divides, keep to the left of the fork.
You’ll find Shisivi Wood standing off to your right soon after.

Returns to the previous choices
Can you remind me how I get back to the Shisivi from here?
Tell me more about bloodline of Ishgana.
The bloodline of Ishgana stems from a very powerful wizard cenuties ago of the same name. Despite his great power, Ishgana led a life of kindness and pacifism.
My father and I are direct descendants of Ishgana, but all of the village shares some relation to him.
It is he who traveled to this land and planted the Ori Tree. It is he who governs our ways to this very day. *She squeezes tightly the black book in her arms.*
Returns to the previous choices
Why is this cult so fixated on the blood of this village?
Ishgana is not only a village, but a bloodline.
The blood of Ishgana contains great magic. A remarkably potent ingredient for their sorcery.
Whatever they're doing within Shisivi Wood ... it is unnatural, and deeply unholy.
Returns to the previous choices
What do you know about this cult?
I know very little about them. I've taken to calling them 'Flesh Wroughters' - a term from our villages histories. The group from the stories and this cult share many similarities.
For whatever reason, they seam to be practicing blood magic - an ancient and forbidden sorcery.
They want the blood of Ishgana for their rituals. I fear my wizards haven't much time left - if they're still with us at all.
Returns to the previous choices
You mentioned 'blood magic.' What is that?
It is as it sounds. The blasphemous art of unraveling of the mortal coil itself for you own gain.
A sorcery forbidden for good reason. It is a magic of rituals - of bloodletting, sacrifice, and suffering. Each act is both a channel and an offering.
Those who practice blood magic do so at great cost, for its power is as dangerous as it is intoxicating.
As much as they may try to pretend they can overcome it - blood magic is a force that consumes as much as it gives.
Returns to the previous choices
I wanted to ask more about the missing elves.
Very well, but make it brief - I'd prefer you have the opportunity to ask them yourself.
Tell me about who they are.
One of the Karu was the hunter of our village, Ninsei. The other was our local enchanter, Kinji.
Ninsei has a wife in the village - you may have crossed paths with her already. She would be forever grateful if you could bring him back safely.
Kinji had a habit of complaining about nearly everyone and everything, but he is still one of our own, and it is our duty to bring him home.
Returns to the previous choices
How did they go missing?
TODO: Gotta dig this up again.
Returns to the previous choices
How long have they been gone?
Several moons now - I worry greatly the worst may already have happened. It is one of the few reasons I have allowed an outsider to aid in this endeavor.
By the blessing of the Ori Tree, with what little strength it still possesses, I hold onto the fragile hope that they may yet return safely.
Returns to the previous choices
I wanted to ask about something else.
If you must.
The conversation forks on the graph-variable check:

That's all I need to know for now.
Before you depart, speak with Shono, our trader. Her husband is among the abducted - she will see to it that you have what you need. Do not waste her generosity.
I am giving you a chance to earn the trust of Ishgana, viasha - do not disappoint me.
The conversation ends
I wanted to ask about something else.
Very well, but with haste.
The conversation ends
I wanted to talk to you about other matters.
If you must, but with haste. We have little time.
The conversation ends
I better be going. I doubt we have much time.
You've stolen the very words from my lips, viasha. Time itself turns against us.
Before you depart, speak with Shono, our trader. Her husband is among the abducted - she will see to it that you have what you need. Do not waste her generosity.
Return to me should questions arise or obstacles block your path.
The conversation ends
I'm willing.
I'm sorry. I can't commit to that at this time - but I may be able soon.
I see... should you return to Shisivi Wood, keep them in your thoughts. And if your heart should waver, seek me out.
By then, they may already be lost, but you remain our best hope of saving them. I can only hope you act before time steals that chance away.
Goodbye for now, viasha. I do thank you for the information.
The conversation ends
*You begin to laugh hysterically* I left them to their fate once already - what makes you think I'd return? I'm simply passing along information, that's all.
- Changes standing with Ishgana Wind Wizards
- Changes how the speaker feels about the player
I should have known not to even ask. A vile creature from a wretched world void of compassion ... a world I shall never let in again.
The conversation ends
- Triggers an event in Where the Wind Blows
I've come to aid you in the recovery of your captive wizards.
*Her eyes narrow, calculating.* And where did you hear of my missing Wind Wizards? Do my kith truly speak with such carelessness?
Where ever you may have heard it, my trust is not something I give quite so freely.
Who are you? Why should I trust you to meddle in our affairs?
My care lies not in your politics but in a potential bounty. Surely you'd like these men found and brought home? That's what I do.
Unlike my father, I am not moved by words - though, yours have instilled a glint of faith. I will not trust you, but I will allow a you a chance to prove yourself.
My wizards are being held somewhere in a forest east of Ishgana called, 'Shisivi Wood.' Follow the scent of death, and you will find it.
As you may have heard, we've recently been stalked and invaded by a cult - practitioners of some ancient blood magic.
Whoever they are, they've been fixated on Ishgana for quite some time. They know our routines, our culture, and I fear even more beyond that.
Prepare yourself well, viasha - do not make me regret this.
- Triggers an event in Where the Wind Blows
Your people speak not with carelessness, but fear and frustration. They want action to be taken. Please - let me help you.
I sense a connection between these missing wizards and the tree that withers in the center of your village. Perhaps bringing them back could restore it.
*Her expression softens, only for a moment.* Unlike my father, I am not moved by words - though, you speak unlike other viasha - much like someone else I know.
Perhaps it was the Ori Tree that led you here on the winds ... *She slips into contemplation.*
I can give you no good reason. I only wish to save these wizards.
Your intentions are well-meaning, but I see no good coming from an outsider meddling in our affairs.
I think it would be best if you continued on your way.
- Changes a variable of something the compendium does not publish
The conversation ends
You'd be a fool to reject my aid in such a situation.
I'm simply a traveler.
*Her eyes narrow, calculating.* We are not accustomed to your kind prancing about.
Tatsuya must have let you in. *she says the name as one would mention a relative one is no longer speaking to, but is forced to meet at feasts.*
Have you seen wizards of wind on the road?
No, I'm sorry to say.
*She nods curtly, seemingly expecting such a reply.* The Flesh Wroughters leave little trace ...
Who are the Flesh Wroughters?
They are as their name implies - corrupt creatures that meddle with flesh, bile, and life. And they ... *she adds darkly* .... they have captured my wizards.
Their dark actions cast a shadow across our lands, outsider.
Can you feel it as well? The Ori Tree dims further yet, I fear it will fade altogether.
What can I do to help?
What can you do? Nothing. I didn’t ask for your help, and I don’t trust it. If you truly wish to help, stay out of our way and let us handle our own.
My care lies not in your politics but in a potential bounty. Surely you'd like these men found and brought home? That's what I do.
I sense a connection between these missing wizards and the tree that withers in the center of your village. Perhaps bringing them back could restore it.
As you wish.
*The chief stares at you, eagerly awaiting your exit.*
Don't be so prideful. I can get these Karu back for you.
Why don't you just kill these fiends? You carry the gift of magic.
*Your reply seems to solidify her opinion on your kind further* Unlike you - *her face flashes with distain.* - we do not lower ourselves to that of our enemies. The Flesh Wroughters end lives, we do not.
And what has your restraint gained you? Sometimes, to defeat monsters, one must stoop to their level.
Only when someone the data does not name is in
Not all deaths is the same. A wicked death is but a faint whisper, while a righteous one leaves echoes that linger long after.
I'm sorry. I meant no offense.
Noble words, but these 'Flesh Wroughters' won't stop just because you hold the moral high ground.
*The chief appears to begrudgingly respect your blunt honesty.* Perhaps you're right ...
What concern is it of yours? I'm not here to cause trouble.
*Her eyes narrow, calculating.* As I stated before, I am the chief of Ishgana. If a pebble is overturned here, I am to hear about it.
That is to say - you made it my concern the moment you passed beyond the palisades.
Tatsuya must have let you in. *she says the name as one would mention a relative one is no longer speaking to, but is forced to meet at feasts.*

*Renhai's face goes dark and somber.* I can't place my finger on it exactly ... but there is something about all of this I don't quite trust.
I'm not accusing you of anything officially, but our business here is concluded, and you may take your leave from Ishgana.
The conversation ends
They weren't going to make it back to Ishgana. I put them out of their misery.
If False
I was overtaken by cultists ... They were lost in the struggle.
*Renhai sighs deeply and holds back further emotion.*
I should have known this was cursed to begin. Now ... surely ... the Ori Tree will perish.
Many thanks, viasha. You did all you could, I am sure ...
If you would excuse me ... I wish to be left alone ...

I went to the forest. There's a large encapment of cultists.
Cultists? Of what nature?
Only when the game's own check passes. The compendium cannot name what it reads (GET [ KNOWS CULT IS A BLOOD CULT ]).
They seem to be some sort of ancient rite. Whatever they're studying, it's certainly forbidden.
Requires a Medium check of Intelligence
I see ... and my wizards, what of them?
They live, but I need to unlock the cell they're held in.
*The warmth slowly starts returning to Renhai's pale face.* / *You see the Renhai's face light up with visible hope.* They live?
Then you must return and bring them home.
Please, [player], hurry! Before something awful befalls them!
The conversation ends
Yes. They are alive.
I need to dwelve further into the ruin they're encamped in. I was ill prepared my first venture in.
*Her pale skin releases a small bead of sweat from the forehead.* / *The chief is visibly nervous.* Well, have you your provisions? Perhaps it's time you head back.
I must know if they live ... Please, viasha ...
The conversation ends
They live, as of now. But they're to be sacrificed.
*A look of horror washes across the face of Renhai.* Sacrificed?
You must return to this cult's encampment and save my wizards from this fate!
Please, [player], hurry!
The conversation ends
They've fallen ... but that doesn't mean we can continue to let these fiends terrorize Ishgana.
*Gloom drapes thick over the neck and shoulders and the young chief.* Fallen ... More dead ....
All right, [player] ... rid the cultists from the tomb ... by whatever means ...
The conversation ends
I'm not yet sure ... I need to go back.
They were a cult of blood magic.

Other entry points (3)
The game reaches these from elsewhere: a quest event, or another conversation.
Yes?
It said you're directly descended from the ancient Tsukasans.
... Is that all?
It also mentioned something called, 'The Black Gale'.
*The chief is, again, hesitant to answer.* It refers to what we call chaos wind magic, a much more offensive and destructive form of wind magic.
It hasn't been used in generations for that reason.
Perhaps it's time to teach it to your Wind Wizards once again.
I don't know ... Ishgana is a place of such peace.
And how would the village feel of me if I swayed so heavily in judgement?
What if you let each individual decide amongst themselves?
You're right, [player]. I've been incredibly near-sighted ... Each elf in the village has their own right to chose.
I will, then, give them their choice from this day fourth.
And for all you've done for Ishgana, I find it only fair that you be given the opportunity to learn as well, if you so choose.
